Organic synthesis is a branch of chemistry related to the production of chemical compounds through various organic chemical reactions. Research in the synthesis of organic compounds can lead to the creation and understanding of chemical reactions, ultimately resulting in the discovery of new knowledge and the development of new chemicals and pharmaceuticals applicable to technology.

The International Conference in Organic Synthesis and Sustainable Material 2024 (ICOS-2024) is a collaborative effort with the UiTM Branch Sabah. In 2016, ICOS was previously held in Kuching, Sarawak, in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. The participation of researchers from both domestic and international sources exceeded expectations. Therefore, ICOS-2024 has once again chosen Borneo as the conference location. Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was selected for its unique cultural and ethnic diversity. Sabah is also known as the City of Natural Resorts. The strategic location is believed to attract more international participation, especially from Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan.

ICOS-2024 is the first of its kind, combining the fields of organic synthesis and sustainable materials in line with the synergy of current research areas. ICOS is seen as a successful platform that has a significant impact on researchers in the fields of organic chemistry and sustainable materials. This platform is utilized by researchers to exchange ideas, address challenges in their research, and foster new collaborations through grants or journal publications.
